A short film produced by Strabane History Society and the Alley Theatre exploring the life and legacy of Herbert Cooper. Narrated by Michael Kennedy it includes cine film shot by his father in the 1950’s showing carnivals and events in the life of Strabane town as well as the earliest moving images of the legendary ‘Clipper Carlton’ showband.

What a terrific production. I watched with a great deal of interest. I wonder if any photographs exist of what was Townhall Street and of the grocery shop of Robert Monteith – he was my grandfather. In the film, we got near it with Bowling Green and Blee’s corner and the mention of McDevitt’s Sunday paper shop. I am pretty sure the cannery fire was 1955. I left Strabane in 1966.
